Recent data from Rumos, a training and consultancy brand in the field of technology, reveals a promising picture. Between 2018 and 2023, Rumos recorded a 47.8% increase in the number of female trainees, showing an increasingly active and enthusiastic female participation in IT. This increase is not just a number; it is a tangible reflection of the growing interest in integrating and enriching the sector, demonstrating recognition of the vital role that technological training plays in personal and professional development.
What is driving this increase? The answer lies in a change of mentality and the breaking down of stereotypes. Women are increasingly aware of the importance of technological skills and are determined to develop them. Areas such as programming, cybersecurity and data analysis are attracting a growing number of women, highlighting the recognition of the power of these skills to define the digital future.
The 14th edition of Girls in ICT Day, established by the International Telecommunication Union, is being marked this year under the theme of "Leadership", highlighting the critical importance of developing IT skills that not only prepare young women for technical careers, but also enable them to take on leadership positions within the field.
This focus on leadership is especially relevant at a time when IT is becoming increasingly central to all aspects of contemporary life. The ability to lead, innovate and shape the future direction of technology is essential to ensure that women's contributions not only enrich the sector with diversity of thought and creativity, but also direct technology towards solutions that benefit society as a whole.
The road towards greater gender equality in IT is far from complete, but progress is unequivocal. The increase in the number of female trainees at Rumos is testimony to the untapped potential and the growing determination of women to be an active part of this field. At the same time, initiatives such as Girls in ICT Day play a vital role in encouraging more young women to explore careers in IT. Promoting and empowering women to pursue careers in IT, equipping them with the necessary skills and opportunities, is key not only to building a more inclusive and equitable future, but also to fostering innovation and technological progress for the benefit of society as a whole.
